WEBQUEST REFLECTION (11) - 13 / 10 / 2009

After the presentation, we had "makan-makan" time. There were a lot of food. Dr Fara prepared "nasi impit" and rendang, spaghetti, cinnamon roll and many others. While eating, I took the chance to ask Rama and Taufik regarding our Webquest presentation. I just wanted to discover what would be the response of others after watching our Webquest presentation. At that time, I was mentally and physically prepared for whatever response and feedback that they would give. Both of them said that we were good and even congratulated us on our work. So, I guess, ours is not so bad, right! I felt relief and felt proud actually because despite the workloads as a teacher, a part-time student, a mother etc I finally came towards completing my semester with almost all assignments done. Hope I could get good grades for this class and also other classes. Thanks Dr Fara for all the guidance, help and knowledge given and shared with me...

WEBQUEST REFLECTION (10) - 13 / 10 / 09

Let me tell you what happened during the Webquest presentation. Each group presented their Webquest in their own style and their own creativity. My partner, Zana suddenly got panicked and felt inferior because she said that our Webquest project is simple compared to other groups. She couldn't stop saying repeatedly that she felt inferior. I was surprised with her reaction actually...and kept on giving her encouragement words. For me, our Webquest project is simple but the way we created and designed it is very systematic, simple and practical for Form 2 level. In fact, I am proud of our work because it was the first time ever in my life coming out with an assignment like this which would benefit me in my teaching. One thing for sure I learnt it only in my CALL class and not in school. After all, there are always rooms for improvement if it is not perfect, right? Despite saying whatever possible and suitable words to boost Zana's spirit it did not work. When it came to our turn to present, she decided not to present though we had actually divided our parts for the presentation. So, finally I presented alone and Zana helped to click for the slides! I didn't mind doing it because I understand her situation. What an experience!

WEBQUEST REFLECTION (9) - 12 / 10 / 09

Can't wait for this afternoon class to present the Webquest project. My partner and I had put a lot of effort in producing this project. I hope Dr Fara would like our ideas on Malaysian Traditional Cuisine- the Malay, Indian, Chinese. Here, in this project we want our students to explore on the uniqueness of our Malaysian Cuisine especially the traditional food which is influenced by the multi- racial people. Students can know the names of the food, the origin of the food and also the description of the food as they browse on the web adressess provided in the tasks. It is not only that, they could also find out how the food is prepared. So, students would compile recipes of traditional food from all the races in their scrap book. From the task, they are to choose one type of food and present to the class what they have found out from their Webquest exploration. Isn't it interesting?.....It is a task that is simple and very close to them. Who doesn't like food, right?

WEBQUEST REFLECTION (8) - 12 / 10 / 09

Today, I browse around for more websites that could provide me with recipes of the Malaysian Malay, Indian and Chinese traditional recipes to be inserted in my Webquest project. Though this is for my Webquest assignment, it actually benefits me as well...now I have a list of websites that I could refer to when it is time for cooking...bundles of recipes provided by the Webpages for me to try. May be I can try to make/prepare mutton/beef curry in Indian style different from what my mum taught me or the Chinese "dim sum" and "Hainnan Chicken Rice". It varies my cooking skills then...

WEBQUEST REFLECTION (7) - 11 / 10 / 09

Tonight I did my final touch to my project on my Webquest which is about "Malaysian Traditional Cuisine" - Malay, Chinese, Indian. It was really an experience for my partner and I to really explore through the internet to get as much information as we could for the project. Previously we had identified and selected some of relevant websites for our Webquest. We kept them and kept gathering more and more. And previously also, we had shown our task given to Dr Wan Fara and she approved to it and commented on how we could improve on the task. Tonight, we had prepared PowerPoint slides to do our Webquest. We made use of what we had gathered and inserted all the websites addresses that we had identified which suit for the activities planned in our Webquest. After looking at the end product of the given task I felt so happy and could not believe that I managed to come out with a teaching and learning material. Perhaps, this could be used in my teaching. Thanks,Dr for the assignment. Though I am really tied to my work, I really learn a lot in this class. Hopefully what I learnt would be able to be applied in my teaching career! Good luck to me then...

WEBQUEST REFLECTION (6) - 23 / 09/ 09

Still in holiday mood...but assignment calls... Today I started to 'on' back my computer after 3 days of break for Hari Raya Celebration. Can't really enjoy myself as my mind keeps on thinking of the assignments and the school work... Today I just browse around looking for my webquest materials. My partner and I decided to do on "Malaysian Cuisines"... thought it would be interesting and very close to our students. Managed to find a few interesting materials regarding the chosen topic. Starting to compile whatever found for future use....Here are some of the addresses that I had found which could be used later on - http://www.norlia.com , http://www.terengganutourism.com , http://www.recipezaar.com , http://www.marimari.com ,http://www.indianfoodforever.com , http://malaysianfood.net , http://deliciousasianfood.com , http://malaysianfoodnet , http://rasamalaysia.com , http://www.101cookingrecipe.com.

WEBQUEST REFLECTION (5) - 15 / 9 / 09

I read a message by Dr Fara from the Yahoo Group who wanted us to show her our draft on our projects - e-portfolio and Webquest for approval before we start the projects. Dr Fara commented that there was only one group - Diana's group who had sent her a draft of Webquest. Right after CALL class I managed to get Diana and asked her about it. She showed me her draft and comments written by Dr Fara. This has basically given me a clearer picture of what is the project about and how should I go about doing it. I should start working on it since my partner and I had already decided on the topic that we plan to do - On Malaysian Traditional Cuisine, and we are on the right track after looking at Diana's draft, Dr's comments and also the CD. Better start then...

WEBQUEST REFLECTION (4) - 15 / 9 / 09

Today we had a talk on "Academic Writing" by Dr Cameroon. It was a three-hour-talk. I was tired but of course tried very hard to concentrate on his talk. In the talk, Dr Cameroon taught us on how to choose a topic for our research purposes. We had a workshop and were asked to come out with one idea of interest of our research and then were guided on the research topic. It was tough because I was not mentally prepared for this. I came out with a topic which was quite general according to Cameroon and then were corrected and guided by him. Though he did not give me the exact topic as it requires time and deep thinking, I basically got some ideas on how to come out with a topic - A research topic should include a specific topic in a general topic. E.g (How can a successful transition from R&D stage to commercialization) - general (be best achieved in Malaysia with genetically modified?) - specific. Personally, I think that it was a good talk but I was not mentally prepared for this talk as I do not take research paper this year. But of course I benefited from his talk but I am afraid I might forget about it when the time comes...which will be next year.

WEBQUEST REFLECTION (3) - 1/9/09

Today' s class was really interesting. We got the chance to explore on the English program in the digital lab. En Syed taught us how to explore the program. I did ask En Syed how could I get the program...but he told me that the program was expensive - about RM6,000.00. A good program but got to forget about it then...Dr Wan Fara distributed 3 handouts on Webquest samples. A Webquest lesson template and two samples from Dr's ex-students on "Exploring the world of Sarawak" (potrait and horizontal style). I have actually explored the webquest template a few days ago and I think a potrait style is much easier for a beginner like me and might apply it in my Webquest assignment... My partner and I are clear now on the assignment but we still do not know how to export the template to Power Point slides??? Got to really sit and explore the lesson template and get help from the pros...

WEBQUEST REFLECTION (2) - 25/8/09

Last two weeks, Dr Wan Fara distributed a CD for each of us regarding the assignment on the Webquest. What a relief! The CD really helps us (my partner, Ruzana and I) a lot. Now, I am clear with the assignment because many samples are included in the CD for our reference. I am clear on what to do now though I haven't started anything yet. My partner was rather upset that day because she couldn't open her CD. I shared with her then. She's thinking of getting a new one from Dr. I could understand her disappointment...when the thing she needed most was in front of her but she couldn't explore it. Still in the process of going through the content of the CD. Some samples viewed were really impressive. Still try to figure out how did Dr Wan Fara's ex-students managed to do those presented. Lot of things to learn then....

WEBQUEST REFLECTION (1) - 11/8/09

My CALL assignment on Webquest is due soon, yet, nothing is being prepared. I thought that I was clear when the assignment was explained by Dr Wan Fara. But then,, when I reached home everything seemed blurr... Already asked my partner but she is also blurr. Guess, I got to have face-to-face session with Dr Wan Fara. Hope she can explain it again or perhaps show us a few samples of her students' previous work.
